The Fantasies of Miracle

[mood |creative]
[music |A Christmas Story]

Hello ladies!  I am in desperate need of help.  This is actually the first time I've posted for help...  I've started a fic, but somehow I've writen myself into a wall and I don't know which way to turn.  I think I want to girl to end up with Silk, but I'm still keeping Rizzo, Johnson, and Janaszak in mind.  Any and ALL suggestions are welcome!!

Summary: Suter's sister was in a car accident with her parents her senior year, which killed her father, paralyzed her mother, and left her blind.  Suter kind of takes care of her, and since she can't relaly get along wihtout him, she goes to Minnesota with him for the 7 months of practice.

You'll have to fogive me, for I don't know how to link text to a post, so it's all below.  Sorry!

Chapter 1-Tryouts

“Bobby, I can survive for a week on my own,” protested Katherine Suter.

“I know you can, Kay, but…what if something happens?  Can’t you just stay at the Thompson’s for a bit?” pleaded Bob Suter.

“No,” she insisted, than got an idea.  “Can I just go with you?”

“Kay….” he started, but melted when he saw the pleading look on his little sister’s face. “Alright, alright.”

“Thank you!” Katherine jumped into Bob’s arms, giving him a big hug.  She pulled away and felt her way with her white cane to the stairs and climbed them slowly, going to her room.  Bob sighed as he watched her.  His sister, Katherine, had been blind since she was a senior in high school.  They were on their way to meet him at the airport when he had come home from college for Christmas when, because of the slippery ice, their father lost control of the car and they ran into a ditch.  The crash killed their father, paralyzed their mother, and had caused a head injury for Katherine, blinding her for life.  Katherine and her mom survived for the remainder of Bob’s college years, then their mother’s condition worsened, and she had to be put in a home.  So it was Bob and Katherine on their own.

Bob walked up the stairs and packed his stuff for their road trip to Colorado Springs for tryouts for the Olympic hockey team.  When he heard about the tryouts, he wasn’t going to do it, on account of Katherine, but Katherine insisted he do it.  He packed the car, and went into Katherine’s room.  He helped her pack her things, and then took them out to the car, and they were off.

They stopped at a hotel over night, and were off again the next day.  When they arrived, Katherine couldn’t do much except sit in the stands and listen.  But that was her favorite part.  She loved the sound of ice skates skating on the ice.  For four hours, Katherine sat in the stands and listened to the tryouts.  A few minutes after they ended, she heard someone come up to her in the stands.

“Hey,” said the voice.  It was Bob.  “We’re hearing the primary cuts on the other side of the rink.”  He took her hand, leading her over to another section.  She sat down and listened.  She heard a crowd of boys enter and sit down.

“Katherine Suter?” said a voice.  Katherine sat up straighter, trying to recognize the voice.

“Mark Johnson?” she asked.

“Hey,” he said, giving her a small hug.

“How are you?” she asked, smiling.

“I’m good,” he said.  “How about yourself? Keeping ol’ Suter in line?”

“You know it.”

“Well, I have to go sit down, I’ll talk to you later, okay?”  Katherine nodded and sat back once again.

Soon, a man entered and said, “I’m Craig Patrick, the assistant coach.  There has been a light change in the way things will be running. We have the final roster for the next seven months right now. Hughes, Ross, Auge, Delich,” both familiar and unfamiliar names were announced, but she smiled when she heard, “Suter, Ramsey, Janaszak.”  The named continued to be said, until the last one, “Eruzione,” was said.  If she could see, Katherine would look at her brother and smile, but instead, she simply smiled.

After Herb came in and made his little speech, the boys got up and left.  Suter came over to Katherine. “So, what do you think?” he asked.  Katherine got up and hugged him.

“Congratulations, big brother,” she said, and then pulled away.

“Hey, Suter, right?” said a voice.

“Hey,” said Bob.

“Steve Janaszak.  Some of the other guys are going to the bar down the road tonight.  You want to come?”

“Um, no thanks, actually, I uh,” said Bob, not wanting to leave Katherine out, so he decided to decline the invitation.  Such as how he always did.  If Katherine wasn’t invited, it was out of the question.

“He would love to go,” interjected Katherine.  After a pause, she stuck out her hand.  “Katherine Suter…the little sister.”

Steve chuckled and shook her hand. “Nice to meet you.”

“Pleasure is all mine,” she smiled.

“So, we’ll see you at the bar, around six?” said Steve. “You’re welcome to come, Katherine, if you’d like.”

“Thank you,” said Katherine.  After Steve walked away, Katherine said, “Nice guy.  Nice handshake.”

Suter chuckled. “Let’s go.”  He and Katherine walked back to the hotel and settled in.

At six o’clock, Bob and Katherine left the hotel and drove to the bar down the street from the hockey rink.  “You know,” said Katherine, as they walked into the bar.  “I think one thing I miss most about not being able to see is the inability to check out guys.”

“Not that I would know anything, but I don’t think you’re missing much with this crowd,” he replied.  They walked in and Bob led her over to a table with a bunch of the guys who made the team.

A few minutes after Jack stormed out of the bar, Silk looked up and saw a short, bleach-blonde boy, who he had seen at tryouts, walk in with a brown-haired girl, who was wearing sunglasses.  Why was she wearing sunglasses inside at night?  Then he saw her white cane, and realized she was blind.  She was pretty, though. Silk shook his head and went back to his test.

“Suter!” said Janaszak, as he saw Bob and Katherine walk into the bar.  He motioned for them to walk over.  “Guys, this is Suter.”  Suter shook hands with various guys at the table.  “And this is his sister, Katherine, right?”

“That’s right,” said Katherine.

“This is Dave Christian, Buzz Schneider, Mike Ramsey, John Harrington, Mark Pavelich, Phil Verchota, Rob McClanahan, and Mark Johnson,” Steve introduced all the guys at the table, mostly for Bob’s benefit.  Katherine didn’t bother to shake hands with the boys across the table, not knowing where they were, or what she would knock over while doing so.  She took a seat beside her brother.

Katherine and Bob stayed at the bar with the guys for a couple hours, laughing and talking.  A few years ago, Katherine would have been in seventh heaven, in the company of so many boys, but things seemed to be different.  It was the first time in a long time she really longed for her sight.  Just one glimpse.

“Katherine?” she heard her brother.

“What?” she asked, lifting her head, snapping out of her thoughts.

“You okay?” he asked quietly.

“Mm-hm,” she replied, forcing a smile.

Any and ALL help would be MUCH appreciated!!!
